From time to time I fall in love with a different art. About 3 years ago I found out Altered Books. At first I was puzzled by what artists could do with an old, unloved book. I just could not understand how an old book could be transformed in a work of art. Then I looked up for a definition and found in Karen Hatzigeorgiou Web page. "Any book, old or new that has been recycled by creative means into a work of art." And found this on the Creativity Portal website “Altered book art combines several types of artistic techniques into one unique art form. Starting with a book base, the artist tears away pages and then adds their own creative expressions through rubber stamping, scrapping, collage, photomontage, and writing.” “Good, but where do I begin?” I asked myself. Then I found the altered books Yahoo group and started learning from the wonderful people there. And the rest is history. I having doing altered books for some time now. I use many techniques I already knew, some I learned recently and some I just invented myself. I also have been binding some of my books and I have done books using only prints from my original oil paintings.
